Classic Country House Contents at Charterhouse

Charterhouse Auctioneers in Sherborne have been instructed to sell the entire contents of a colonial style country house. “Rarely do such wonderful contents come on the auction market. ” Commented Richard Bromell. “Included in the auction are not only the contents of the formal drawing rooms, but also that of the staff quarters. I suppose it is just a shame that it is the contents of a dolls house rather than that a full size country house! “This doll’s house furniture was manufactured by Tynietoys, an American company. It was founded in 1920 by two entrepreneurial women, Marion Perkins and Amey Vernon who sold their popular range of dolls houses and accessories through department stores such as Marshall Field. Although produced on a commercial basis, the painted furniture is particularly sought after as this hand painted decoration was subcontracted to students of the Rhode Island School of Design.Originally owned by a family relation, the Tynietoys dolls colonial mansion house was given away to a convent many years ago. However, the contents were all packed up in two cardboard boxes in 1945, where they have stayed ever since until Charterhouse was asked to the Somerset house to value several items for auction. Now going under the Charterhouse hammer in their two day collector’s auction on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th March, this dolls house collection is estimated at £300-500.Charterhouse is now accepting for their forthcoming Spring auctions including dolls, medals, militaria, coins, stamps & other collectors items in March, followed by classic cars and motorcycles in April. For further information regarding these auctions, or to arrange a home visit, please contact Richard Bromell, Director at Charterhouse, The Long Street Salerooms, Sherborne, Dorset 01935 812277 www.charterhouse-auction.com or via email on info@charterhouse-auction.comRichard Bromell with a Tynietoys wing armchair, painted by a student at The Rhode Island School of Design. Also included with the furniture is an original sale brochure showing a Colonial Mansion House with it furniture in room settingsVarious images of the Tynietoys furniture being sold by Charterhouse in Sherborne £300-500Quick Links For further information regarding this article, please contact Richard Bromell, Director
